The Neo-Black Movement of Africa has officially distanced itself from the notorious group known as the Black Axe, which law enforcement authorities have classified as a “criminal organization.”
According to The PUNCH, in a statement released on Monday, following a weekend world press conference, NBM leaders reaffirmed their commitment to separating their identity from that of the Black Axe.
Interpol had previously tagged the Black Axe as a criminal syndicate, implicating its members in numerous international financial crimes and illicit activities.
This association has caused concern for NBM of Africa, which insists on its distinct role as a positive force for change in African communities.
In their joint statement, the NBM leadership expressed frustration over the persistent confusion between their organization and the Black Axe.
National President Ese Kakor, alongside Board of Trustees member Efe Akpokiniovo, co-signed the statement, addressing the issue head-on.
According to them, the confusion has been perpetuated by former members who were expelled from the group, and who are now allegedly working to tarnish NBM’s reputation.
The statement underscored that NBM of Africa has a well-maintained, structured database and operates as a disciplined and responsible entity.
“NBM of Africa remains committed to the ideals of its foundation, which are rooted in the principles of Pan-Africanism, promoting Black solidarity, and advocating for social justice and equality for marginalized individuals across the world,” the statement noted.
The organization emphasized its dedication to these core values, despite efforts by detractors to link it to criminal activities.
NBM leadership also reiterated the group’s motto of “social justice, equality, and equity for all,” while lamenting that certain individuals were deliberately mischaracterizing their organization as part of a campaign to defame them.
They expressed deep concern over the spread of misinformation, particularly on digital platforms such as Wikipedia, where the page associating NBM with Black Axe remains active despite numerous efforts to have it removed.
“There is a conspiracy to malign members of NBM of Africa,” the statement declared. “We have attempted to remove that particular page on Wikipedia, but despite our efforts, malicious individuals have conspired to keep it up, with the intent of defaming NBM members. We completely dissociate ourselves from the Black Axe and all attempts on social media to discredit NBM of Africa.”
In conclusion, NBM of Africa continues to seek justice and clarity, working to defend its reputation as a forward-thinking, community-focused organization while battling the negative associations that continue to dog its image.
The group remains resolute in its commitment to Pan-African ideals and in distancing itself from any connection to the Black Axe.
