An incident at the Mowe Health Centre in Ogun State on Tuesday resulted in the death of one person after a doctor’s vehicle crashed into the hospital premises.
According to The PUNCH, a source familiar with the situation pointed out that the doctor lost control of his vehicle while entering the health centre and collided with the hospital’s wall, killing one person and injuring two others.
The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, explained that the doctor frequently parked at the health facility.
“The accident happened when the doctor lost control of his car and rammed into the hospital’s fence, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to two others,” the source said.
Confirming the event in a telephone conversation on Thursday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the body of the deceased was transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for an autopsy. She also assured that investigations were ongoing.
Odutola stated, “The incident involved a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number APP 422 GJ, driven by a doctor. The driver, who regularly parked at the health centre despite not being a staff member, lost control of the vehicle while attempting to enter the premises, colliding with the hospital wall. This accident led to the unfortunate death of a three-year-old named Ejikey Israel and injuries to two other individuals.”
She added, “Police officers visited the scene, the vehicle was moved to the station for safekeeping, and the injured were taken for treatment. The investigation is still underway.”
In a similar event earlier in August, a driver in an unregistered Honda Accord killed a person and injured two others in a crash involving a motorcycle along the Oru-Ijebu Igbo road in Ijebu North Local Government Area.
The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, explained that the reckless driving was the cause of the incident.
