The body of the late Isaac Omodewu, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, is set to return to Nigeria from the United States on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
According to The PUNCH, the announcement was made by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wale Sadare.
Omodewu, who had travelled to the United States in November 2023 for medical treatment, passed away on August 18, 2024, following an illness.
Sadare provided details about the arrangements, stating, “The body of our chairman will leave the USA on 11th September and arrive in Nigeria on Thursday, 12th September.
A Christian wake will be held in Ibadan on that Thursday, followed by a church service and burial in his hometown, Otu, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, on Friday, 13th September.”
Omodewu, who served as a Commissioner under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration, was elected as the Oyo State APC Chairman in the state congress held in October 2021.
He officially assumed the role in February 2022, alongside 34 other state chairmen, in a ceremony led by Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
Regarding the future leadership of the Oyo APC, Sadare stated that the decision on whether Omodewu’s deputy, Olayide Abas, would be sworn in as the new chairman would be postponed until after the funeral. “We have not acted on it. We will address the matter after the burial. We have put it on hold for now, as we want to pay our last respects to our chairman,” Sadare explained.
Olayide Abas, who currently serves as deputy chairman, is from Igboora, the headquarters of the Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State.
