President Bola Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency and the Department of State Services.
The announcement was made in a statement by the spokesperson of the presidency, The announcement was made by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, on 26 August 2024.
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been appointed as the Director-General of the NIA. Ambassador Mohammed, who joined the NIA in 1995, has had a distinguished career in the foreign service. His career includes serving in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja.
He was most recently the head of Nigeria’s mission to Libya. Ambassador Mohammed is a 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano.
Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi is the new Director-General of the DSS. Mr. Ajayi has risen through the ranks within the DSS, previously serving as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi before his promotion to Assistant Director-General.
The appointments come after the resignation of the former heads of the NIA and DSS.
In a statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence in the new appointees, stating, “I expect Ambassador Mohammed and Mr. Ajayi to bring their vast experience to bear in repositioning the two intelligence agencies for improved results. The challenges we face require collaboration with sister agencies and strategic alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser.”
The President also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General, acknowledging their contributions to national security and wishing them well in their future endeavours.
