The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed the identity of a crossdresser found dead on the Katampe-Mabushi Expressway in Abuja.
The deceased has been identified as Ifeanyi Chukwu-Agah Benedict, a 33-year-old man from Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the body was initially mistaken for that of a female.
“Following a case of culpable homicide and the discovery of an unidentified male corpse on August 8, 2024, which was initially thought to be female, the FCT Command has launched a discreet investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh,” Adeh stated.
She further explained, “Preliminary investigations have identified the deceased as Ifeanyi Chukwu-Agah Benedict, a 33-year-old man from Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He resided in the Dapé area of Karmo, Abuja.”
The police have contacted Benedict’s family, who are now assisting with the investigation. Adeh assured the public that further details would be provided as the investigation progresses.
Earlier reports indicated that the body was found dressed in women’s clothing and was initially mistaken for a female.
The victim was confirmed dead at the hospital with no immediate means of identification. It is believed that he was attacked on the night of August 7, and his body was later dumped along the Banex, Wuse II area of Abuja.
Benedict, also known by the alias “Abuja Area Mama,” had reportedly held a live session on TikTok just hours before his death.
