The Nigerian Army’s 6 Battalion, located in Ibagwa, has commenced the demolition of unserviceable ammunition and explosives in Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
The exercise, which began on Monday, August 19, 2024, will continue until Thursday, August 22, 2024.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Adebowale Adejimi, residents were urged to remain calm and avoid the designated demolition area.
“The demolition of unserviceable ammunition and explosives is scheduled to take place at 6 Bn Range Area in Abak LGA, from 19-22 August 2024,” the statement read.
Residents of Abak LGA were advised to “stay off the designated exercise area” and to “not panic at the sound of explosives.”
The statement further assured the public that “adequate measures have been placed for safety and security at the range area and its environs.”
