A devastating fire engulfed a seven-story building on Sanni Adewale Street, located in the Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State, in the early hours of Friday.
The building, which housed numerous shops, suffered extensive damage as the fire ravaged through its structure.
Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident, though the inferno caused significant alarm among residents who fled the area in a desperate bid for safety.
The fire is said to have erupted around 5:17 a.m., setting off a wave of panic as the blaze quickly engulfed the building.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has been tirelessly working to bring the situation under control, with the fire already consuming goods worth millions of naira.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations were promptly deployed to the scene following an emergency call.
The fire crews arrived at the location by 5:33 a.m., just 16 minutes after the fire started.
By 7:00 a.m., Adeseye provided an update, stating, “Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now under control. Ventilation efforts are currently underway to ensure the safety of all in the area.”
Adeseye also noted that preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the fire was likely sparked by an electrical surge. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, allowing the focus to remain on preventing further damage and ensuring the safety of nearby residents and property.
