Benue State Governor, Rev. Hyacinth Alia, has called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the assassination of Chris Terfa-Ikpu, a prominent humanitarian worker in the state.
Terfa-Ikpu was killed by gunmen on Friday evening at his office on Nyesom Wike Road, Makurdi.
According to The PUNCH, Governor Alia, accompanied by top government officials, visited the family of the deceased on Sunday to express his condolences.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the governor praised Terfa-Ikpu’s significant contributions to the health and human rights sectors, particularly his advocacy for vulnerable populations in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The governor acknowledged the prompt response by the Divisional Police Officer of E Division, Bar Daniel Ezeala, and his team, who have already taken a suspect into custody.
He emphasized that all security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure that those responsible for the murder are apprehended and brought to justice.
The statement read in parts, “The Governor recalled the deceased’s significant contributions to the health and human rights sectors, particularly his efforts in advocating for vulnerable populations in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“The Governor commended the prompt actions of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of E Division, Bar Daniel Ezeala, and his team, as the ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details and identify the culprits.
“Even as he was told that a suspect was already in custody and was cooperating.
“The governor further directed all security agencies in the state to hunt and ensure the perpetrators and anyone connected to the dastardly act is apprehended and brought to book,” the statement added.
Alia assured the public that the state government is fully committed to swiftly serving justice.
