LA Galaxy have reportedly signed former Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus to a contract running through December 2025, with an option for an extension.
Popular football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, disclosed this in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
“Marco Reus to LA Galaxy, here we go! Deal finally done after initial agreement revealed in July. Contract until December 2025 plus option to extend, as expected. Reus, planning for travel to US in the next days for medical tests and contract signing.Done, sealed,” Romano wrote.
Reus, a Bundesliga legend, became a free agent after Borussia Dortmund’s loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final this summer. Speculations about his next move pointed towards Major League Soccer (MLS), with clubs like St. Louis CITY SC and Charlotte FC showing interest.
Before securing Reus, LA Galaxy had to negotiate with Charlotte FC for his discovery rights. This precondition was necessary under MLS rules before the player could join the Galaxy.
According to the report, Reus is expected to travel to the United States soon for a medical examination and to finalize his contract with the Galaxy.
However, the Galaxy currently have no available Designated Player slots, which are already filled by Gabriel Pec, Riqui Puig, and Joseph Paintsil.
Despite this, contract specifics suggest Reus will earn around $1.7 million this year as a non-Designated Player.
Reus’ addition is set to bolster LA Galaxy’s already formidable attack, making them strong contenders for the MLS Western Conference title.
Last season, Reus netted nine goals in 42 appearances for Dortmund, narrowly missing out on European success.
Currently, the Galaxy lead the Western Conference with 49 points, though they have played two more games than their city rivals, LAFC, who are close behind with 47 points.
The rivalry intensifies as LAFC recently signed Olivier Giroud and are reportedly targeting Antoine Griezmann, promising an electrifying El Trafico on September 14.
Before this showdown, the Galaxy will face Seattle Sounders in the Leagues Cup 2024 round of 32. They will resume their MLS campaign on August 24 against Atlanta United.
