The Nigerian Army has conducted a series of successful operations, leading to the rescue of kidnap victims and the arrest of key Boko Haram figures, among other achievements.
According to a statement shared on X, on Tuesday, the Army reported that troops had rescued a former local government chairman and apprehended a notorious kidnapping kingpin in Egbe Community, Yagba Local Government Area, Kogi State.
The statement noted, “The suspect, Mohammed Bello, who belonged to a seven-man syndicate specialised in kidnapping unsuspecting citizens, has been on the security agencies’ wanted criminals’ watchlist.” The troops also responded to a distress call involving the former Chairman of Kabba Local Government Area, engaging terrorists in Egbe Forest, capturing one suspect, and rescuing the victim, who has been reunited with his family.
In Ebonyi State, soldiers thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Ezza-Umuhuali Village, Ishielu Local Government Area, and arrested a suspect with an Automated Teller Machine card, 48 international passports, and other items.
Additionally, troops in Borno State apprehended two significant Boko Haram commanders, Bana Yamode and Babagana Usman, on 4 August 2024.
These individuals had previously led attacks on military installations and were found in the Damasak Internally Displaced Persons camp.
The troops also captured two Boko Haram logistic suppliers, Mustapha Ismaila, 49, and Abdulmudalabi Haruna, 30, and rescued two minors during this operation.
In Yobe State, three Boko Haram collaborators involved in kidnapping and armed robbery were arrested at Gubio Market.
The statement further mentioned that in Jigawa State, nine hoodlums looting a shop in Kazaure town were arrested, with recovered items including 255 bags of fertilizer, three bags of rice, a solar panel, and five motorcycles.
In Plateau State, five suspected cultists and another individual involved in motorcycle theft were arrested.
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, praised the troops for their dedication to combating terrorism and insurgency and encouraged the public to support security agencies by providing credible information to improve the effectiveness of ongoing operations.
In July, the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke had also arrested two notorious terrorists after a fierce shootout at Geshi Village, Donga Local Government Area, Taraba State.
