The Kogi State Police Command has apprehended three individuals accused of impersonating the wife of the state governor, Sefinat Usman-Ododo, to defraud residents.
The Spokesperson for the State Police Command,SP Williams Ovye-Aya, explained that suspects are currently held by the Police Quick Response Unit.
Ovye-Aya disclosed in a Tuesday statement that the suspects, whose names have not been released, allegedly created and distributed fake forms, which they sold to the public under the guise of an enrollment for a non-existent empowerment programme.
The fraudulent forms were labeled with the name: Kogi State Cooperative Federation of Nigeria.
The suspects misled their victims into believing that this cooperative was an empowerment initiative from the First Lady’s office.
“The suspects were nabbed in Lokoja on Tuesday, when an undercover agent approached them and bought the form,” stated the Police Public Relations Officer.
He further mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted once it concludes.
