The National Space Research and Development Agency has teamed up with Proforce Galaxies Limited to launch a constellation of four satellites, aiming to enhance Nigeria’s security and maritime operations.
According to The PUNCH, this collaboration was announced in a statement by the Director of Media and Corporate Communications of NASRDA, Dr. Felix Ale, on Tuesday.
This initiative is poised to bolster Nigeria’s economy, security, and advancements in satellite technology, marking a pivotal step towards the nation’s aerospace ambitions.
The constellation comprises three optical satellites and one Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite, which will be instrumental in precision agriculture, monitoring, and data collection, serving critical sectors such as defence, maritime, and oil and gas.
The Director General of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, highlighted the essential role of the private sector in fostering innovation and growth, affirming, “The private sector plays a crucial role in driving innovation and growth, and we are committed to providing the necessary technical expertise for this collaboration.”
Adepoju also praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing a proactive Minister of the Federal Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology, noting, “This partnership is a testament to the President’s commitment to leveraging technology for national development.”
The Group Managing Director of Proforce Galaxies Limited, Engr. Ade Ogundeyin, expressed confidence in NASRDA’s capabilities, stating, “NASRDA has the capacity and capability to be at the centre of the global aerospace industry, and the launch of these satellites will ensure this.”
He emphasized the significance of technology transfer for national progress, adding, “This strategic partnership will be highly rewarding not only to the parties involved but the entire nation, as the outstanding results will be among the great achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Adepoju reassured Proforce of NASRDA’s dedication to the collaboration’s success, appreciating Proforce’s exceptional productivity since the partnership began two years ago, saying, “We appreciate the remarkable achievements of Proforce, particularly its high level of productivity since the partnership began two years ago.”
