The Ogun State High Court on Wednesday issued an order restricting the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests to four specific locations within the state.
The court also mandated that the protests can only occur between 8 am and 5 pm.
According to The PUNCH, the designated protest sites are MKO Stadium in Abeokuta, Ansar-ud-Deen Comprehensive High School in Ota, Remo Divisional High School in Sagamu, and Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
Justice O. Ogunfowora granted the application presented by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN). The court directed that all protests under the#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria slogan, or any other related slogans, must adhere to the location and time restrictions from August 1, 2024, to August 10, 2024.
Attorney-General Ogungbade explained that the chosen locations span across the state’s four divisions within the three senatorial districts, ensuring that protesters in those areas can participate safely and without disrupting the rights of non-protesting citizens.
Justice Ogunfowora also instructed the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to enforce the order, ensuring protests are confined to the specified locations and time frame.
The judge emphasized that the order is temporary, lasting seven days, and required the state to serve the application notice within this period. Protesters were given 72 hours to respond to the application.
The next hearing is scheduled for August 6, 2024.
