President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of Onyeka Onwenu, the renowned singer, songwriter, actor, journalist, activist, and politician who recently passed away.
This is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale on July 31, 2024.
In his tribute, President Tinubu mourned the loss of the iconic “Queen of Songs,” whose influential 1990s hit, “One Love,” became a symbol of unity and camaraderie.
The statement reads in part, “He fondly remembered her significant contributions to public awareness, particularly her memorable collaboration with King Sunny Ade on “Wait for Me,” a song promoting family planning in the 1980s.
“President Tinubu celebrated Onwenu’s diverse talents and her remarkable ability to bring joy and laughter through her artistic endeavors.
“He extended his condolences to the entertainment industry, the government of Imo State, and her countless fans who are grieving this significant loss.
“The President prayed for Onwenu’s peaceful repose, envisioning her in a place where the music never fades and there is endless joy. He concluded by affirming that her legacy will live on through her timeless works.”
