Chelsea have secured the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for a reported fee of £20.7 million.
The Danish player has committed to a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, marking him as the fourth senior goalkeeper acquisition since BlueCo’s takeover in 2022.
In an interview with Chelsea’s club channels, the 22-year-old expressed his excitement, “This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates.”
Jorgensen emphasized the importance of joining the team promptly to be ready for the upcoming season, noting, “It was very important for me to come here as quickly as possible and get involved as early as I could to be prepared for the new season, to learn how the manager wants to play, and to get to know everyone.”
Born and raised in Denmark, Jorgensen moved to Spain at 14, spending a year with Mallorca before joining Villarreal.
His impressive 2023/24 season, featuring 37 appearances for the Yellow Submarine, caught Chelsea’s eye.
Reflecting on his journey, Jorgensen stated, “I am very happy with how the last 12 months have panned out. I am very confident in myself and I know what qualities I have. Luckily I had the chance to show myself on the biggest stage in Spain and now I am very happy to have the chance to do that at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Jorgensen also revealed his long-time admiration for Chelsea, “I always liked watching Chelsea because I watched a lot of Petr Cech growing up, so Chelsea were one of my favourite teams to follow.”
