Brigadier-General Ibikunle Ajose has officially taken on the role of Acting General Officer Commanding of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto.
According to The PUNCH, this change was announced in a statement released by the division’s spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Ibrahim Shittu, on Friday in Sokoto.
Ajose succeeds Major-General Godwin Mutkut, who has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as the Director of Military Technology.
In addition to his new role, Ajose will also command the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI.
During the handover ceremony, the outgoing GOC, Mutkut, expressed his gratitude to the officers and soldiers of the division for their steadfast cooperation and support during his tenure.
He urged them to maintain their commitment and discipline. Mutkut also highlighted that Ajose, a former Brigade Commander within the division’s Area of Responsibilities, is well-acquainted with the region.
He voiced his confidence in Ajose’s capability to further the division’s progress.
In his response, Ajose praised Mutkut for his successful achievements and requested his ongoing support and guidance.
Ajose pledged to collaborate closely with all officers and soldiers to ensure peace and stability within the division’s jurisdiction.
“I wish the former GOC good luck in his new appointment. I want to charge officers and soldiers to remain loyal to constituted authority and ensure adequate protection of lives and property,” Ajose said.
He emphasized his commitment to building on Mutkut’s accomplishments by promoting greater dedication and focus to fulfill the Nigerian Army’s mission.
Ajose also underscored the importance of maintaining synergy with other services and security agencies, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy to enhance national security.
