Payne sisters, Nicole and Toni are set to make history as they join the Super Falcons for the Paris 2024 Olympics, donning Nigeria’s green and white in their bid for gold.
The sisters have eagerly shared their excitement on social media, showcasing their jersey numbers ahead of their opening match against Brazil.
Nigeria’s return to the Olympics after 16 years places them in a challenging Group C, alongside reigning World Champions Spain, Brazil, and Japan.
This marks the Super Falcons’ first Olympic appearance since 2008, and they face a tough road to advancing past the group stage and clinching their first Olympic gold.
Despite the challenge, the Payne sisters are determined to make a significant impact.
Nicole will wear the number 4 shirt and expressed her readiness on social media with, “Ready for the games,” accompanied by images of the siblings in their Super Falcons’ Nike kits.
Toni, who will sport the number 7 jersey, aims to leverage her experience from the recent World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where the Super Falcons were knocked out in the Round of 16 by England.
In addition to their Olympic preparations, the sisters have been active in the transfer market.
Nicole has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a contract through 2026, while Toni has moved to Everton in the English Women’s Super League.
The Payne sisters are set to make their mark in Nigerian football history as they aim for Olympic gold in Paris.
Their journey begins on Thursday when the Super Falcons face Brazil at the Bordeaux Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6 pm Nigerian time.
