Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced the preparation of over 500,000 hectares of land for cultivation in the Niger South Senatorial District, aligning with his agricultural revolution initiative.
The Governor revealed this while inspecting his personal farm in the Emi Guye Community near Bida, where 140 out of 1,000 hectares have been cultivated.
He attributed the success to the support from the Bida Emirate Council, the State government, and the private sector, enabling the preparation of vast tracts of land for agriculture.
Bago emphasized the importance of community engagement and the need for youth to recognize the potential benefits and prosperity from his agricultural policies.
Expressing his satisfaction with Niger Foods Ltd, the Governor highlighted their success in clearing 32,000 hectares of land in the Bobi grazing reserve in the Niger North Senatorial District, among other areas, for similar purposes.
In his interaction with the Emi Guye community, he discussed plans to involve them in his farm operations to generate income and assured them of further development initiatives for the community.
The Zonal Project Manager of Zone A for Niger Foods, Fodio Yusuf Abubakar, mentioned that the company has successfully covered all allocated farmlands in the Niger South Senatorial District.
He detailed that alternative crops like maize, soybeans, and sesame are being planted, with plans for further discussions with other communities to join the agricultural revolution.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Musa Bawa Bosso, noted that the agricultural revolution is progressing well, with the goal of feeding the nation appearing achievable.
He acknowledged that the partnership between the Ministry and Niger Foods has inspired more people to participate in the Governor’s agricultural project.
The Commissioner also highlighted a program called “Community Agricultural Extension Volunteers (CAEV),” which mobilizes interested community members from across the state to join the agricultural efforts.
