A British couple attempting to sail across the Atlantic Ocean were discovered dead in a lifeboat near Canada’s coast.
The bodies of Brett Clibbery and Sarah Packwood were found when their raft washed ashore on Sable Island, about 108 miles southeast of mainland Nova Scotia, according to local media.
Ms. Packwood, believed to be from the UK, and Mr. Clibbery, from Canada, were initially reported by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to be both from British Columbia. Formal identification is still pending.
The couple, identified as Briton Sarah Packwood and her Canadian husband Brett Clibbery, are thought to have abandoned their yacht before perishing and washing up on Sable Island near Nova Scotia on July 12.
They had set sail from Halifax Harbour on June 11, bound for the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, aboard their yacht Theros, according to Canadian police.
Reported missing on June 18, the pair were found three weeks later on July 10.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Clibbery’s son James confirmed their deaths.
“The past few days have been very hard,” he wrote. “My father James Brett Clibbery, and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood have regrettably passed away. There is still an investigation, as well as a DNA test to confirm, but with all the news, it is hard to remain hopeful.”
He expressed that the couple would be “forever missed,” adding, “There isn’t anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far unexplained passing.”
Ms. Packwood and Mr. Clibbery had been documenting their journey from Canada to Europe on a YouTube channel called Theros Adventures, where they shared regular videos.
They referred to their latest voyage as the green odyssey, highlighting the yacht’s power source—a battery from an electric Nissan Leaf car and six solar panels.
