Arsenal have finalized a deal to acquire Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford, according to The Athletic.
The England Under-20 international is poised to join the club this summer on an initial four-year contract.
Setford has represented England from the Under-16 level and is part of Arsenal’s strategy to recruit young goalkeepers this summer.
The club recently released three youth goalkeepers, including Arthur Okonkwo, who moved to Wrexham, and Setford has been chosen as a replacement.
In addition to Setford, Arsenal are seeking a senior goalkeeper to support David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale. Their bid for Wolves’ backup keeper, Dan Bentley, was rejected.
Arsenal will play a pre-season friendly against Bournemouth on Thursday. Should Setford complete his move, he will be aiming for some game time before the new season begins.
