A British dentist has been charged with manslaughter in France following the death of a 68-year-old patient who underwent dental implant surgery in Bordeaux.
She underwent the procedure on July 3 last year and died of cardiac arrest the next day in a Bordeaux hospital.
A second dentist and their assistant were also charged with failing to assist the patient, and also barred from leaving the country, the prosecutor’s office said.
According to the AFP, the dentist, who was previously struck off the UK dental register, is accused of causing the patient’s death through negligence.
The patient, a retiree from Guadeloupe, died of cardiac arrest on July 4, 2023, a day after the procedure
Two other dental staff members have also been charged with failing to assist the patient and are barred from leaving France.
The dentist is now prohibited from practicing in France and must remain in the country pending trial.
