A joint operation by the Nigerian Army’s 21 Armored Brigade and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency successfully intercepted a shipment of illicit substances intended for Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, shared details on X, stating that the joint team, acting on intelligence, swiftly executed the operation in Konduga Local Government Area.
This effort led to the seizure of 163 bags of a psychoactive substance locally known as “Goom” or “Akusukura,” totaling an impressive 2.5 tonnes.
Makama noted, “The operation, which was carried out following a tip-off, resulted in the recovery of 163 bags of the substance, equivalent to 2.5 tons in a warehouse in Konduga.”
He emphasized the threat posed by the substance, describing it as “a deadly psychoactive substance that represents a serious threat to public health and poses a challenge for drug policy.”
He further explained that the substance comes in different varieties and is used in both liquid and powdered forms by individuals seeking to elevate their psychological or nervous activity, essentially to get high.
The recovered items were handed over to the NDLEA team leader, with the military cordoning off the area.
Makama highlighted the success of the operation, stating, “The operation highlights the effectiveness of interagency collaboration and the commitment of the military and NDLEA to keeping Nigeria safe.”
