A Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the case between former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai, and the Kaduna State House of Assembly to July 17.
The adjournment was announced on Monday.
The case arose after the Kaduna House Committee released a report accusing El-Rufai of multi-million Naira fraud and corruption during his tenure.
In response, the former Governor challenged the report in court, arguing that his right to a fair hearing, as guaranteed under the Constitution, was violated since he was not given an opportunity to defend himself against the allegations.
During the hearing, Sani Katu, SAN, representing the Kaduna State House of Assembly, notified the court of their intent to file a preliminary objection, questioning the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case.
Katu requested an extension of time to allow them to submit all relevant applications.
This request was supported by the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of Kaduna State, Sule Shauaibu, SAN, who is also a defendant in the case.
Counsel for the applicant, Sule Umoru, did not oppose the extension.
The presiding judge, Justice R.M Aikawa, granted the extension and rescheduled the hearing to July 17, 2024, to provide the respondents time to file all necessary applications, including the substantive one.
