Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has fulfilled his promises to the National Youth Service Corps members posted to the state.
The governor donated 600 bags of rice and 20 cows to the corps members, in addition to his earlier pledge of N200,000 to each of the 1,600 members, totaling N320 million.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the NYSC Coordinator in Niger, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab, confirmed receipt of the items, expressing the corps members’ and camp officials’ delight.
Olayinka disclosed that she had taken delivery of the 600 bags of rice and 20 cows, adding that the items were received with great elation by both corps members and camp officials.
She said the process for the payment of the N200.000 for each of the corps members was ongoing, while the survey for the five boreholes and the toilets had commenced.
The coordinator said the donation of the items would help mitigate the challenges faced by corps members during the orientation exercises.
The donation aims to enhance the corps members’ comfort and encourage them to remain in the state after their service year.
The governor also promised to provide five boreholes and additional toilet facilities at the male and female hostels, with the survey already underway.
