Gunmen suspected to be armed herders have killed three individuals from the Agagbe Internally Displaced Persons camp while returning from their farms on Monday evening.
According to The PUNCH, in a bid to provide for their families in camps across the state, adult men had resorted to farming.
The victims met their tragic end while making their way back from the fields.
Terna Jacob, the former manager of the camp, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday.
He identified the deceased as 38-year-old Ameeya Solomon of Tse Kuan in Mbabuande council ward, 40-year-old Adagu Terwase of Tse Abua in Mbapa council ward, and 16-year-old Master Orkaha Terkende of Tse Maihwa in Mbabuande council ward.
According to Jacob, they were attacked while returning to Agagbe town to sleep, as their homes had been previously destroyed by armed Fulani herders.
Jacob relayed the account of Orkaha Terfa, who survived the attack and is the elder brother of the 16-year-old victim. Terfa stated they were ambushed near NKST Church at Tse Nyamti while coming back from the farm.
“The deceased identified as Mr Ameeya Solomon 38yrs of Tse Kuan in Mbabuande council ward, Mr Adagu Terwase 40 of Tse Abua in Mbapa council ward and Master Orkaha Terkende 16 years old of Tse Maihwa in Mbabuande council ward were killed as they were coming back from their farms to Agagbe town to sleep as their homes were already been burnt down by armed Fulani herders,” Jacob said.
