Three Killed as aircraft crashes on motorway in France
At least three people were reported dead following a tragic incident east of Paris, France, on Sunday, when a light aircraft crashed onto the A4 motorway.
According to a police source, the plane collided with an electric power cable around 4 pm before descending onto the motorway in Nosiel.
Both directions of the motorway were subsequently blocked, although no vehicles were impacted.
Images from the site depicted officials in high-visibility jackets attending to the overturned plane situated on the central reservation.
Meaux prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier informed the AFP news agency that the victims were “two men and a woman,” noting that the pilot “was born in 1989.”
The crash occurred around 3:45 pm on Sunday, and an investigation is now underway, led by the air transport gendarmerie, as reported by Le Parisien.
The Bureau of Investigation and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety has also launched an “administrative investigation.”
In a statement, the Association of Residents of the Lognes Aerodrome commented, “A tourist plane from Lognes-Emerainville (aéroflight flying club) has crashed for the second time in a year on the A4 near Collégien.”
The residents’ association has previously voiced concerns about the risks of planes flying over urban areas.
This incident echoes a similar event last July, when a small tourist plane, missing its landing at Lognes-Emerainville airstrip, crashed into the barrier on the A4. In that case, all three passengers survived, with only the pilot suffering minor injuries.
