The Euro 2024 last-16 match between Germany and Denmark was interrupted late in the first half due to a violent storm.
English referee Michael Oliver halted the game in the 35th minute in Dortmund, pulling the players off the field amid torrential rain, hail, high winds, thunder, and lightning.
The score was 0-0 at the time, around 9:35 pm (1935 GMT).
“Due to adverse weather conditions, the game has been suspended. More information to follow,” read a message on the stadium’s big screens. Fans in the 60,000-strong crowd sought cover as water poured from the roof, and local police closed fan zones in Dortmund due to the severe weather.
Germany initially dominated, creating several chances to take the lead and even having a goal disallowed due to a foul before Nico Schlotterbeck’s header. However, Denmark gained momentum as the half progressed.
Their progress was halted when Oliver paused the match amidst wild weather conditions, including heavy rain and lightning strikes close to the stadium.
