Ferran Torres’ early goal in the 13th minute propelled Spain to a 1-0 victory over Albania, securing their position at the top of Group B and completing a flawless group stage at UEFA Euro 2024 on Monday.
The 2012 European Champions have solidified their status as tournament favorites, remaining one of only two teams to keep a clean sheet throughout the competition.
Torres managed to break through Albania’s staunch defense thanks to a brilliant pass from Dani Olmo, sending a shot that hit the far post and went in, marking his first goal of the tournament and giving Spain an early advantage.
Despite Albania’s efforts to equalize and stay in the tournament, they couldn’t find the back of the net and were eliminated with this defeat.
Their best opportunity came in the 76th minute when Kristjan Asllani’s shot from outside the box narrowly missed the far post.
Another chance arose in the 91st minute when Armando Broja’s flick from inside the box was saved by David Raya.
Spain is the only team so far to win all three of their group-stage matches. Portugal could join them in this achievement if they defeat Georgia on Wednesday.
