The Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is set to receive masqueraders at his family compound, Ita ‘Bale Olugbode, in celebration of the annual Egungun festival.
This traditional celebration, which takes place between June and July, is a significant aspect of Ibadan custom and tradition.
According to The PUNCH, sources said the Olubadan-designate will offer prayers and receive gifts from the masqueraders at the ceremony.
“We will give the Olubadan-designate a rousing welcome. Thank God that Governor Seyi Makinde has approved Oba Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land. While we await the coronation day, Baba will be here at the family compound to celebrate the Egungun festival with us,” a source who preferred anonymity said.
The event comes after Governor Seyi Makinde approved Oba Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land on June 14, 2024.
Following this approval, the traditional ruler is expected to enter seclusion before his coronation ceremony, which will be held at Mapo Hall, Oja’ba, Ibadan, on a date to be announced by the state government.
The Egungun festival is an important part of Ibadan’s cultural heritage, and the Olubadan-designate’s participation in the celebration highlights the significance of tradition and community in the ancient town.
The event is expected to be a vibrant display of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage, with masqueraders and traditional rulers coming together to honor the town’s customs and traditions.
