A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, arraigned three men on Friday for alleged unlawful possession of explosives.
The News Agency of Nigeria identified the defendants as Adamu Abdullahi, 46, Haruna Musa, 57, and Sanni Garba, 26.
With “unknown addresses,” the defendants are charged with possession of explosives.
Prosecutor Akinwale Oriyomi, a police inspector, informed the court that the offense occurred on June 5 in Ado Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendants were found with three cartridges of 32mm, a detonating cord, and firing cables, violating section 1(c) and punishable under Section 1(e) of the Explosive Act 1964 and Explosive Regulation 1967.
He requested an adjournment to study the case file and gather witnesses.
The defendants pleaded not guilty. Their counsel, Ademola Richard, requested bail, assuring the court that they would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Olarewaju Owoleso granted each defendant bail of N500,000 with one surety in the same amount, and adjourned the case to July 29 for hearing.
