The Council of Urhobo Traditional Rulers and the Urhobo Progress Union have issued a joint statement urging for increased humanitarian assistance and rebuilding efforts in Okuama.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after a joint executive meeting held on Tuesday at the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie, in Effurun, Delta State and signed by the Chairman, Ukoko r’ Ivie r’ Urhobo and the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, and the UPU President General, Chief Ese Owe.
The councils stressed that the Urhobo nation remained committed to sustaining the peace in Delta State, stressing that the Urhobo and Ijaw nations would continue to live in harmony.
The forum lauded President Bola Tinubu “for stopping the killing and counter-killings in Okuama-Okoloba axis and the release of the arrested traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom, Clement Ikolo, Urukpe 1, from the Nigerian Army detention.”
Also, the joint executive expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his diplomatic approach in handling the breach of security in the area and the eventual release of the Ewu monarch.
