The Kogi State House of Assembly has given approval to the recruitment of 1,050 hunters to enhance the state’s security infrastructure.
According to The PUNCH, the approval was granted during a plenary session held on Wednesday in Lokoja, the state capital.
A formal request for the recruitment of 50 hunters for each of the 21 Local Government Areas of the State was submitted to the Assembly.
This request came from the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Salami Deedat.
Upon presenting the letter in the hallowed chamber, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, highlighted that the lawmakers had previously determined that due to the security challenges and manpower shortages in the State, recruitment was necessary.
Following a voice vote, the legislators unanimously approved the recruitment of 1,050 hunters, with the provision that the Caretaker Chairmen of the Local Government Areas would be responsible for their salaries.
The State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, speaking after Eid prayers at the Okene Central praying ground on Sunday, reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing the security of lives and property in the state.
