The National Association of Ondo State Students and the Students Union of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti have clarified that Oni Olalekan, a student accused of raping his male colleague, is not affiliated with their organizations.
In a statement, NAOSS emphasized that Olalekan, also known as Asiwaju, holds no membership, executive role, or appointment within their association.
“We would like to clarify that this individual is not a member of our association nor has any affiliation with us. It is important to ensure that this distinction is clear to the general public and that any misinformation is addressed promptly,” NAOSS stated.
They urged anyone with relevant information to contact the association board, adding, “Let’s continue to uphold our values and principles as we strive for a respectful and supportive community within our association.”
The FUOYE Student Union, through a communique signed by President Ebo Timilehin, and General Secretary Akinwande Olusegun,and Public Relations Officer Omotayo Tolulope, also reiterated that Asiwaju is not part of the Students Union Government or any of its appointees. They requested the public to disregard any false information.
“Please be assured that the FUOYESUG is actively addressing this matter and will take all necessary actions to ensure that justice is served. Thank you,” the statement concluded.
Asiwaju, a 400-level student at FUOYE, was accused of raping a male colleague on Monday, June 10, 2024, and has since been arrested by the police.
Ekiti State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday, confirmed his apprehension, noting that the investigation is underway.
A viral video captured a chaotic scene where a crowd was seen pulling a young man, with voices in the background accusing him of allegedly sodomizing another student.
A police officer was also seen trying to extricate the young man from the enraged crowd.
In the video, one voice called for the student, identified as Asiwaju, to be lynched, while others argued he should not have been handed over to the police.
