A 37-year-old man, identified as Yusuf Adinohi, suspected of being involved in ritualistic activities, has been apprehended by police detectives in Ondo State.
Adinohi, who admitted to selling human skulls to fund his mother’s medical treatment, was paraded by the State Police Command in Akure after his arrest in the Isua-Akoko area.
Adinohi was caught with eight human skulls while traveling from Okene in Kogi State to Osogbo in Osun State. Security officers detained him at approximately 11 a.m. at the Agbasi Locust checkpoint in Ase, Isua Akoko, Ondo State.
He was a passenger in a commercial vehicle driven by Kabiru Abubakar.
During the investigation, Adinohi confessed ownership of the skulls, stating that he was en route to Osogbo to deliver them to another herbalist.
He disclosed the identities and locations of his customers who purchase these skulls from him.
In an interview at the police headquarters in Akure, Adinohi revealed that he had sold seven human skulls at N35,000 each, earning a total of N245,000.
“This will be my third time in this business. On the first trip, I sold four, the second time, I sold three and this latest one eight human skulls,” he said.
He explained that his friend, Ismaila, provided him with the skulls, sourced from burial grounds.
Prior to this, Adinohi was engaged in trading palm oil and cashew nuts, which did not generate sufficient income.
“My mother has been sick, we took her to one hospital in Lokoja and the doctor said we need N2 million for her treatment. So I had no choice but to venture into skull business. My intention was to leave the business once I gathered the money to settle my mother’s medical bills,” Adinohi stated. He noted that he found his buyers through Facebook, describing them as herbalists.
State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, confirmed the arrest during stop-and-search operations in Isua Akoko.
Adinohi also confessed that the skulls were supplied by a person named Imaila, residing in Oboroke, Okene, who sold them for between N30,000 and N35,000 each. Oladipo added that Adinohi would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
