Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced an immediate suspension of special promotions within the Nigerian Police Force.
According to The PUNCH, this declaration was made during a ceremony in Abuja on Friday, where newly promoted senior officers were decorated.
Egbetokun criticized officers who seek special promotions through lobbying, stating that any future instances of officers being recommended by politicians or influential figures will lead to disciplinary actions.
He emphasized that the police management will oversee any necessary special promotions.
In addition to halting special promotions, Egbetokun banned the practice of undue soliciting for postings, warning that violators will face legal consequences within the Force.
At the event, Egbetokun decorated 15 senior officers who were recently promoted.
The newly elevated officers included one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 15 Commissioners of Police.
In his address, Egbetokun urged the promoted officers to meet the high expectations set for them and to serve as exemplary leaders to their subordinates.
