The Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources has published the names of 14 individuals reportedly trapped in a mine pit collapse.
The mine, operated by African Mineral and Logistics Limited, collapsed on Sunday after heavy rain in the Galkogo community, Shiroro Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Wednesday, ministry information officer, Dibie Maureen, disclosed that Commissioner Garba Yahaya pointed out issues of non-compliance and a lack of coordination between the mining company’s Managing Director and the district head.
“The district head of Galkogo village confirmed that initially, a total of 20 people were trapped in the mining site, but six have since been rescued.
“According to the site admin officer of Africa Minerals and Logistics Ltd, the mining company operating in the area, the collapse occurred due to hanging walls within the mining site,” the statement read.
Maureen added that 14 individuals remained trapped at the time of the statement’s release.
The names provided were: “Abdullahi Yahaya, Ibrahim Mansi, Abubakar Isah, Friday Musa, Godwin Hussaini, and Benjamin Ashafa.
“Others include Zayyanu Ibrahim, Abdul Ali Hamza Musa, Umar Abubakar, Joseph Madaki, Ibrahim I. Ishiaku Kuta, Abbas Musa, and Yakubu Mamman.”
