The Kaduna State Police Command has successfully apprehended four people linked to numerous kidnapping incidents across the northwest region.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered several firearms, including an AK47 rifle, a locally made pistol, and three cartridges.
In an official statement, the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Mansir Hassan, said, “On 29th May 2024, acting on a tip-off from a concerned citizen, a joint patrol team comprising officers from the Saminaka Division and the Hunters Group in Lere Local Government Area (LGA) successfully arrested three suspects involved in kidnapping and cattle rustling.”
The suspects have been identified as Isah Baffa Rabo, a 30-year-old male from Maibindiga Village in Lere LGA, linked to kidnappings for ransom in Zango Kataf LGA and Kachia LGA, Ja’afaru Sale, a 30-year-old male from Durumi Village in Lere LGA, and Umar Musa, a 24-year-old male also from Durumi Village in Lere LGA.
Hassan further detailed that the suspects admitted their involvement in a kidnapping syndicate operating in Lere LGA and confessed to stealing two cattle, which they sold to Idris Abubakar, a 47-year-old male from Dokan Lere, who was subsequently arrested.
The statement also disclosed, “Recovered items include a locally made single-barrel gun, a cutlass, and three mobile phones. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.”
In a related development, credible intelligence regarding the suspicious movement of an armed bandit led the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tudun Wada Zaria Division to take swift action, resulting in the arrest of Hussaini, a 70-year-old male from Tudunjukun in Zaria.
The arrest occurred at approximately 0250 hours, during which an AK-47 rifle, a locally made pistol, and three cartridges were seized from the suspect. The statement noted that the suspect is currently assisting the police in their investigations to apprehend his accomplice and will soon face charges in court.
Commissioner of Police Ali Audu Dabigi reiterated the command’s dedication to the safety and security of Kaduna State’s citizens, pledging continued decisive actions against criminal activities within the state.
