The Worldwide Anglican Church, marking the International Day of Children, has made a fervent appeal to global leaders, urging them to prioritize safeguarding children’s rights through effective policies and actions.
In a statement released by Bishop Seun Adeoye, the Church’s International Communications Director, on behalf of WAC Patriarch Archbishop Lwanga Tusubira, leaders were encouraged to implement policies ensuring adequate protection and support for children.
“It is heartbreaking to witness children being killed and injured in wars they barely understand, suffering from hunger, enduring underage marriages, forced labor, and afflicted by diseases, all due to the failures of adult leaders,” the statement read.
The Church called on adults to reject greed for power and wealth, advocating for peace instead of sowing seeds of hatred, particularly for the sake of children and future generations.
“Today, we see thousands of children in places like Sudan, Ukraine, Haiti, and Palestine experiencing extreme violence, unrest, malnutrition, poverty, and other societal ills. These tragedies must be prevented.
“Children everywhere deserve protection and education. We must all strive to provide these children with access to healthcare, nutrition, and shelter, without being caught in the crossfire of conflict,” the statement added.
The Church pledged its support, leveraging its presence in approximately 100 countries globally, to collaborate with UNICEF, UNESCO, and other governmental agencies in ensuring a better life for children.
