Residents of Gaya took to the streets on Sunday to protest the Kano State Government’s decision to dissolve the Gaya emirate, condemning the move as unjust and politically motivated.
According to The PUNCH, the protesters, carrying placards and chanting anti-government songs, expressed their dissatisfaction with the state government and House of Assembly’s actions.
The Kano State Government had repealed the Kano Emirates Council Law on Thursday, leading to the dissolution of the four additional emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2020.
The affected emirates include Rano, Gaya, Karaye, and Bichi. Governor Abba Yusuf directed the monarchs, including Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, to hand over to Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who oversees the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
