The Federal Capital Territory Administration has rescheduled the start of commercial operations for the Abuja Rail Mass Transit System, also known as the Abuja Light Rail.
The announcement, made by FCT Director of Press, Tony Ogunleye, stated that the system will now be inaugurated on Democracy Day, Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 1:00 pm by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The flag-off ceremony was earlier scheduled for Monday, 27th of May, 2024.
“This flag-off of the commencement of commercial operations is part of celebrations marking the first year anniversary of the administration of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
The FCT Minister had previously announced that the Federal Government would initiate a two-month free ride service on the Abuja Light Rail following its inauguration on Monday.
Wike revealed this detail during a ministerial press briefing that assessed the 12-month performance of President Tinubu’s administration in Abuja.
He said that President Tinubu would commission the railway on Monday, with commercial operations beginning on Tuesday, including a two-month complimentary ride service for all commuters.
According to Wike, this initiative is part of President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ for the residents of the FCT and its environs.
