Former Arsenal star, Paul Merson, has launched a scathing attack on Chelsea, criticizing the club’s decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino.
Merson, known for his candid opinions, expressed his disbelief at the announcement, which came shortly after Chelsea confirmed Pochettino’s departure from Stamford Bridge.
The Argentine manager, who had been at the helm for a short period, is said to have left the club by mutual agreement.
In a video shared on his X account, Merson voiced his strong opinion, labeling Chelsea’s decision as a “big mistake.”
He emphasized that Pochettino had managed to get the team performing well on the pitch and deserved more time to continue his work.
The football world is now left to ponder Chelsea’s next move, while Merson’s comments add fuel to the debate surrounding the club’s managerial decisions.
“Just seen the news about Pochettino. Cannot believe he’s gone. Cannot believe. I mean, whoever’s making this decision is – I, I just – how are you going to replace the manager?
“Like he just got the team going. Went on a great run. Getting to Europe, got into seventh in the league from where [corrects himself] sixth in the league from where they were, you know, and he’s just got his team playing. It’s madness. I cannot believe what I’m hearing,” Merson said.
