The Kwara State Government has taken a firm stance against professional misconduct in the state’s health sector, promising to sanction any erring health workers.
This decision came in response to a recent incident at a cottage hospital in Iloffa, Oke-Ero Local Government Area, where the umbilical cord and placenta of a newborn baby were reported missing.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, expressed strong disapproval of such misconduct, emphasizing that the government would not tolerate such behavior among health workers.
She confirmed that the incident is currently under investigation by the police.
The controversy surrounding the mishandled placenta has led to accusations of unprofessionalism against five medical staff members at the Iloffa Cottage Hospital.
The matter is now being handled by the State Police Command in Ilorin, with concerns rising within the Iloffa community over the incident.
The Commissioner said that “the state ministry of health has commenced its internal investigation into the matter and will ensure that justice is done at the end of both processes.”
El-Imam underscored the state government’s unwavering dedication, under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership, to delivering universal healthcare and top-notch services to all Kwara State residents.
She cautioned that any effort to compromise this commitment through misconduct would face severe consequences.
