The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Rachel Gwoffrey, resident of the Federal Housing Estate in Girei, for allegedly setting fire to her stepchildren’s hands.
The State Police Command, Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, reported the incident on Saturday, noting that it took place on Tuesday, May 14.
According to the statement, Rachel intentionally inflicted severe injuries on her stepchildren, Genesis Geoffrey, aged seven, and Idadai Geoffrey, aged three, whose hands are now bandaged.
Nguroje stated that the children have endured calculated acts of cruelty and human rights violations from their stepmother. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a plate of rice Rachel had cooked and set aside for her husband.
“The kids, because of hunger, ate their father’s food and that angered her. She then tied their hands with a handkerchief and set fire to them, resulting in the severe injuries they sustained,” the police spokespsrson said.
