Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted N300 million bail after his arraignment on a four-count charge of printing new naira notes without due process.
Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja.
As part of the bail conditions, Emefiele must produce two sureties with titled property in the Maitama area of the FCT.
He is also required to deposit his travel documents with the court and cannot leave the country without court permission.
These conditions mirror those of a previous bail granted by Justice Hamza Muazu, under whom Emefiele is facing another criminal case.
The judge accepted that Emefiele could provide certified true copies of documents submitted for his earlier bail, granted by Justice Muazu.
The trial is set to commence on May 28.
