The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, issued a stern warning to NIMC staff, cautioning them against any involvement in illegal activities.
During a media briefing at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, Coker-Odusote emphasized the need for efficiency, stating her commitment to streamlining processes to prevent long wait times for minor issues at NIMC offices.
She warned that any staff of the Commission that tried to work with illegal perpetrators will face a disciplinary committee, according to the provisions of the existing laws.
“I will not allow that to continue to happen. We will provide all necessary means to address the issue.
“We want to ensure that life is easy and seamless. One should not spend three to four hours in the NIMC office because of NIN services.
“Any staff of NIMC that tries to work with illegal perpetrators will face disciplinary committee and be tried according to the Cybercrime Act 2015 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Same with any illegal perpetrators,”she said.
Expanding on her statement, the Director-General announced that the Commission is contemplating increasing some of its rates.
“We are going to review our rate. It is not going to be much, but it will be reviewed. We have not reviewed our rate for a long time. It is not going to be exorbitant,” she added.
