Nigerians expressed shock and outrage as a defendants assaulted an unidentified lawyer during a discussion about a cybercrime case involving internet fraudsters at the court premises.
The incident was captured in a video captioned, “Defendants don Dey beat Lawyers for Court? Make this Cybercrimes Act no later scatter this country’, posted on social media by @Ridwanullahi.
In the video, the lawyer was explaining the details of the cybercrime case, stating, “This is the issue that has to do with cybercrime. You’re talking about over $100 million dollars where somebody used a particular platform to dupe Nigerians, and these are the victims of the crime.”
However, he was interrupted by someone who appeared to be a defendant, who told him to stop, saying, “Please can you stop…can you stop?”
The situation escalated, and the lawyer was seen being beaten in the video.
At the end of the video, the founder of Crypto Platform, Jesam Michael spoke about a man named Abayomi, who was said to be his staff and was accused of allegedly diverting the crypto funds of the organization.
Jesam expressed his disappointment and frustration over the situation, emphasizing the importance of trust and integrity in the cryptocurrency space. He vowed to take necessary actions to address the issue and ensure that justice is served.
“We are against anyone going to social media and taking pictures and videos to write story that Abayomi stole money. Abayomi did not steal money. He has never been arrested one day. The police scripted the whole job. It was prank. We keep saying, If you think Abayomi stole money why not going to police officer who investigated the case or go to court where the case is and do your findings,” he said
This incident has sparked reactions from social media users, with some suggesting that perhaps an additional year should be added to the Laws School curriculum to address such behavior.
