A young pure water seller, Ugwu Augustus has bagged a varsity scholarship with a 309 UTME score after leaving school for almost two years.
Founder of Educare, Alex Onyia an organization that prepares candidates for UTME, shared Augustus’ success story on social media. “This youngster from my village, Ugwu Chibuzo Augustus, scored 309 in JAMB.
“He left school two years ago and has been selling pure water in the streets. We convinced him to join the JAMB prep programme with a promise that he would get a scholarship if he scored above 300,” Onyia shared on X on Sunday.
Augustus’ determination and dedication earned him a full scholarship, and he has been enrolled in the program. He is now preparing to retake his WAEC exams, feeling more confident after his UTME success.
Interestingly, Augustus has also been helping his classmates by explaining complex concepts to them and even formed a study group that met on weekends. All members of the group scored high in the UTME.
Augustus’ story is a shining example of perseverance and hard work, despite the odds. According to JAMB statistics, 77% of candidates scored less than 200 in the UTME.
However, Augustus and a few others, like 15-year-old Olukayode Olusola, who scored 362, have shown that with determination and the right support, anything is possible.
Olusola, a student of Government Secondary School, Omu Aran, Kwara State, hopes to study Electrical Electronics at the University of Ilorin.
