Salah sets EPL record as Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-2

Mohammed Salah returned to scoring ways, setting a Premier League record as Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Egyptian opened scoring in the 16th minute to become the first player in Premier League history to score 10+ goals and provide 10+ assists in three consecutive seasons.

According to OptaJoe, Salah is also only the second player to tally 10+ in both in five separate seasons in the competition overall, after Wayne Rooney.

Liverpool doubled the lead after Salah’s 16th minute with Andy Robertson’s goal just before halftime.

Cody Gakpo added another early in the second half, and Harvey Elliott scored a spectacular goal to make it 4-0 for Liverpool.

Richarlison and Heung-Min Son managed to reduce the deficit for Spurs in the final 20 minutes, but it was too late for a comeback.

The only change to Liverpool’s lineup from their previous match was Salah replacing Ryan Gravenberch. Despite Tottenham’s early pressure, Liverpool created the better chances.

Salah hit the crossbar with a cross and had a shot saved before finally scoring with a header from Gakpo’s delivery.

The game opened up towards the end of the first half, with both teams having chances. Robertson doubled Liverpool’s lead by tapping in a rebound from Salah’s shot.

In the second half, Liverpool continued their attacking display, with Elliott setting up Gakpo for the third goal. Elliott then scored a stunning goal from distance to make it 4-0.

Richarlison and Son scored late goals for Tottenham, but Liverpool held on for the win.

Salah had a chance to score his second but missed an open goal, and Trent Alexander-Arnold attempted a long-range effort that went over the bar.

Alisson made a crucial save from Richarlison, and Joe Gomez cleared a follow-up effort from Brennan Johnson. Darwin Nunez was also denied by Tottenham’s goalkeeper in the closing minutes.

The victory confirmed Liverpool’s dominance in the match, securing an important win in the Premier League.
