Arsenal Football Club paid tribute to Nigerian teenager, Daniel Anjorin, by displaying his picture on the big screens before their Premier League game against Bournemouth.
During the match at the Emirates Stadium, a minute of applause was held in honor of Anjorin. This tribute took place after 14 minutes of play, with both teams and the fans participating in the gesture.
Fans also honored him with applause in the 14th minute of the match, with a banner in the crowd reading “RIP Daniel.”
14-year-old Anjorin, a young Arsenal supporter, was tragically tragically lost his life after being attacked with a sword in Hainault, east London on Tuesday while walking to school.
The incident which resulted in fatal wounds to his neck and chest also left four other individuals injured.
Within a short period, 5,000 individuals contributed to a fundraiser for Anjorin’s family. Additionally, Arsenal chose to honor the youngster during their Premier League match against Bournemouth.
The perpetrator, Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national living in Newham, was charged with Daniel’s murder and appeared in court.
Described by his family as a “wonderful child” who was “well-loved” and “hard-working,” Daniel’s death has deeply affected his community.
His family expressed that “No family should have to go through what we are experiencing today.”
Bancroft’s, the school Daniel attended, expressed profound shock and sorrow over his death, remembering him as a dedicated scholar with a positive and gentle nature.
The school had previously experienced tragedy when former pupil Grace O’Malley-Kumar was fatally stabbed in Nottingham.
