The 14-year-old Nigerian, Daniel Anjorin, killed in the horrific sword attack in London was reportedly dragged like dog.
Neighbors recounted the heart-wrenching moment when the boy’s mother screamed, “That’s my son!” during the 22-minute rampage that also injured four others, including a courageous female police officer who is undergoing intensive surgery to repair her arm.
The tragic teenager, Daniel Anjorin, was a student at Bancroft’s School, the same independent school where another student, Grace O’Malley-Kumar, was fatally stabbed in a knife attack the previous summer.
Daniel was on his way to school when he was attacked and killed. Reports suggest that he may not have heard shouted warnings about the attacker because he was wearing headphones at the time.
Neighbors vividly recalled the heart-wrenching cries of the boy’s mother, a local science teacher, as she screamed, “That’s my son!” upon learning of the tragic fate that befell Daniel.
The boy was then dragged “like a dog” down the street by the killer, the unidentified neighbor said.
“[I’m] still in shock,” said the witness, who called Anjorin “not the sort of person who would be in trouble.”
Anjorin’s school flew its flag at half mast Wednesday, telling parents “with great sadness and shock” that another pupil had died from shocking, senseless violence.
“It seems scarcely believable that less than a year on from the terrible death of Grace O’Malley-Kumar in the Nottingham attacks we are facing fresh sorrow,” said the note, seen by the BBC.
Police swiftly intervened in the attack, using a Taser to subdue the suspect who was then arrested at the scene. The initial victim, a 33-year-old man, was first struck by the suspect’s van before being stabbed in the neck, according to an updated timeline provided by police. The 22-minute rampage left four others injured, including the tragic death of Daniel Anjorin.
Despite the swift response, the suspect managed to inflict serious injuries on two responding officers. A female officer sustained severe arm injuries, requiring extensive surgery to repair.
The surgery was successful, but her recovery will be a lengthy process involving months of physiotherapy. The second officer suffered serious hand injuries and is also recovering in the hospital.
The school where Daniel Anjorin was a student lowered its flag to half-mast in his honor. The community is reeling from the shocking and senseless violence that unfolded in their neighborhood.
